Report from UTQEN meeting with Sapele Council Chair, NURTW and Heads of Security agencies of Sapele LGA

Comr. Onyema Kelvin CHUKWU, the Chairman, Union of Tipper and Quarry Employers of Nigeria, UTQEN Sapele local government area, held an all-encompassing meeting with the Chairman of Sapele local government council, ably represented by Hon. Vincent AYOMANOR, the Vice Chairman of Sapele local government council, Evang. Omasan MABIAKU, the Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Hon. Felix AYEMIDEJOR, Secretary, Sapele local government council, together with the Heads of the various Security agencies in Sapele local government area, on Tuesday, 18th April, 2023.

The UTQEN Chairman of Sapele local government area in his briefing, told them that UTQEN had a judgment in a court case with NURTW, that permits them to operate from the National to the State and LGA, that UTQEN is already operating in Oshimili South local government area, Ika South local government area, etc.

The Vice Chairman of Sapele local government council, Chairman of NURTW Sapele local government area, Secretary of Sapele local government council and Heads of the various Security agencies in Sapele local government area, in response told the UTQEN Chairman and his executives to desist from operating in the local government area from 19th April, 2023 to avoid crisis. That the said judgment was bought and has not been incubated. But the UTQEN Chairman of Sapele being a law abiding citizen of Nigeria, said he will not do anything contrary to what the Political Leaders and Security Heads told him at the council Secretariat meeting on Tuesday, 18th of April, 2023. That the local Government and Security Heads will be the ones to enforce the judgment according to the law of Nigeria.

Comr. CHUKWU further said the executives and members of UTQEN Sapele, currently live in fear owing to the threats from the Chairman of NURTW Sapele and that the NURTW have also been collecting tax forcefully from drivers of UTQEN Sapele chapter.

“We are also using this medium to call on the Delta state government, Sapele local government council and Heads of the various Security agencies in Sapele, to come an intervene, because we now live in fear.” CHUKWU.

“There is a Court Judgment giving a restraining order to NURTW which their state Chairman Comr. ARIYOR is aware of, but the NURTW Sapele chapter has refused to obey that Court order and they are misleading everybody here in Sapele, making the Local Government and Heads of Security agencies to stop us from carrying out our union activities peacefully in Sapele local government area.” CHUKWU said.
